1.具体用法
（1）表示过去的事情、动作或状态，常与表示过去具体的时间状语连用（会有上下文语境暗示）。如：
I met her in the mall yesterday.（我昨天在商场碰到了她）
I once saw a famous star here.（我曾经在这里看到过一位明星）
（2）用于表达过去的习惯或表示说话人原来没有料到、想到或希望的事通常用过去式。如： 
They never drank beer.（他们从不喝啤酒）
I thought the film would be touching, but it was not.（我原以为电影会很感人，其实不是）
（3）如果从句中一个过去的时间状语，尽管从句中的动作先于主句发生，但从句中的谓语动词还用过去式。如： 
He told me he read an interesting novel yesterday.（他告诉我他昨天看了一部很有趣的小说）
（4）表示两个紧接着发生的动作，常由以下词语接连，用一般过去时。如：but, and, when, as soon as, immediately, the moment, the minute. 如：

The moment she came in, she told me what had happened to them.（她一进来就告诉我他们发生了什么事）
He bought a phone but lost it.（他买了一部手机但是把它弄丢了）

2.常用一般过去时的句型 
Why didn’t you…/ I didn’t realize it./I forgot to tell you…/ I had been there with my sister before.
